Hi. I was looking the official page of the project in es:wiki and popped into a call for help of yours from 2014. So I have admit that I'm late, to say the least. Mainly I don't go to es:wiki all that often, having moved to Commons and Data. But as I began the municipalities' photos project, I go there from time to time and check. I also check using Wikidata [13].
Situation is that we have found Spain to be an easy place to do this. Well, I'm being a bit over optimistic. What I mean is that legislation (we have freedom of panorama), road network and general physical safety in the country are very good for our goals.
That said, our main problems involve the size of our country (four Pennsylvanias, plus two archipielagoes and two cities on the wrong side of the Mediterranean sea) and the distribution of our collaborators.
Our excellent road network (of which we enjoy complaining about) has allowed my wife and me to drive for 500 km in a day taking pictures of ten different municipalities. Or visiting 100 places in Cáceres in four days. A companion from Daroca drove up to León province and back in one day, photographing all along. Another one, who lives in Ourense province, went to Algeciras with his grandmother. Then I told him about a missing municipality on the road (well, not really on their road, but there was a road to that place). This lady ended up taking pictures with her grandson somewhere in Andalusia. More or less, that's the spirit! I've learnt to stop asking why somebody is going from Madrid to Tarragona via Albacete.
With all pros and cons, we have managed to reach a point where ending is possible! There are less than 50 Spanish municipalities to do. Basically in the province of Salamanca (70%) and Western Andalusia (25%). The parts still to do are all away from home for all main contributors. We work mainly from Madrid, Ourense, Valencia, Asturias, Cantabria. Some people try to help from other places but they don't have time, car or both (anyway we've got help from Pamplona and Almería despite those problems).
I've seen your Pennsylvania page and it reminds me our numbers a lot. Some 2,500 municipalities in 120,000 square km. Spain has 8,200 in 505,000. Same proportion. I've seem that you cover South Pennsylvania better than the Northern part. My bet is that covering Pennsylvania is feasible. But to cover the whole USA you would need a real lot of friends! And well distributed. We have learned a couple of things on the way. First is double-check anything from Flickr. If possible, go and take your own stuff. Second, local people are not always available. A companion phoned and shamed a mayor into uploading pics of his town, but it took a whole day. And other mayors, librarians, priests, etc just don't care. So count on having to do it yourselves.
Running a WLM contest can help, but take into account that you don't need more wonderlful pics of Harrisburg, Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. Maybe you need pictures of So-ugly-nobody-ever-dared-to-picture-this-ville, that are not going to pass into the international phase of WLM (but surprisingly some unpictured places are really nice, Tornavacas for instance).
Well. Sorry for my saying way too little, way too late.

Hi there Smallbones. I am DTM, we have interacted very briefly sometimes over at The Signpost. I have a question. I don't know anyone on Wikipedia who is as involved in all this as you are.
Hypothetically, imagine an editor spends a lot of time on Wikipedia and people start noticing. Family. And they give me food. That doesn't fall into the case of paid editing does it. I know this is a extreme example which I would consider on the side of - no not paid editing. But I just needed some advice and second thoughts. Thanks. DTM (talk) 12:59, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi Smallbones, I've recently been looking for editors to invite to join the new page reviewing team, and after reviewing your editing history, I think you would be a good candidate. Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; the new page reviewing team needs help from experienced users like yourself. Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, most pages are easy to review, and habits are quick to develop). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us. If you choose to apply, you can drop an application over at WP:PERM/NPR. If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message on my talk page or at the reviewer's discussion board. Cheers, and hope to see you around, (t · c) buidhe 00:20, 2 June 2022 (UTC) |

You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}}

I've given it a copyedit. No content changes, though I did tighten up the prose in a couple places where it was a little repetitive. Check the diffs. Couple long sentences left on the back of this; I suspect second copyedit will get those.
For an example of tightening up prose:
Before:
“ | The editor in question made about 6 edits over 3 days a few years ago, all promoting a person with the same name as the accused shooter. The edits were about a rap singer who has now been identified in the mainstream press as the suspected shooter. It’s just the old garage-band-style advertisement that most editors here have seen dozens of times. To the best of my knowledge, this style of advert always traces back to the band members or the band’s manager. | ” |
After:
“ | The editor in question made about six edits over three days a few years ago, all promoting a a rap singer who has now been identified by name in the mainstream press as the suspected shooter. The edits are fairly normal promotional edits: the standard garage-band-style advertisement that most editors here have seen dozens of times. To the best of my knowledge, this style of advertising always traces back to the band members or the band’s manager. | ” |
You get the idea. Just tightening it up a bit. I've left some notes. I've also removed the Norwegian shooter's name - it might be easy to figure out, but we don't need to state it openly. Removing it did lead to one of those over-long sentences, though.
On the whole, good content but it's still a little on the rough side. I'm not sure I want to remove all the roughness - it does speak to your passion - but it's probably best to remove any repetitive bits, and punch up the punctuation a bit. If you have time and are interested, please give this working draft of a Signpost article a glance, or more. Any suggestions? Would you like to co-author this? I have linked your disinformation report from the last edition of Signpost to convey a point about editing ecosystems. It was really thought-provoking. This article is much more abstract. Looking forward to hearing back. You can continue this conversation on Wikipedia wherever you deem most suitable for you. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 17:26, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
My first reaction was (see top of this page)
“ | The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it | ” |
— Omar Khayyám on Wikipedia's record of all edits |
but I doubt that I understood the article. Probably too abstract for me! Smallbones(smalltalk) 19:57, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
There's nothing wrong with gonzo journalism. It would probably even get run by the Editor-in-Chief (and I'd put a word in for it). But if you're going to go for it, go all the way so there's no question that it was by intent. ☆ Bri (talk) 18:54, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you so much for, well, thanking me for writing the article on Alexander McClay Williams! (I also apologize for taking so long to reach out.) I feel like stories like his, of miscarriages of justice and lethal oppression-based decisions in court, are so important to tell in American history. Honestly, it's that kind of encouragement from other users that makes it easier to motivate myself to tell those stories. I have a few more semi-related ones I've been considering; I hope to finish their articles within the year.
P.S. I just published a new, quite similar one on Henry McCollum and Leon Brown. It has not been reviewed yet, but I find it to be just as important of a story to tell; if you choose to check it out, I hope you enjoy it! (It's a loooong one, though.)

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

I was re-reading your excellent and in-depth piece at The "largest con in corporate history"?, and it struck me that the Wiki Professionals Inc scammers briefly covered here, where they are noted to be fronts for Pakistan-based ABTACH Ltd, and its numerous subdomains, would merit your exceptional level of treatment. I was recently involved in the latest WP:COIN discussion of their activities, and they have become utterly brazen in their multi-layered Wikipedia-centered scamming. I would note that the same outfit has been called out by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for scamming businesses over trademarks, and they are undoubtedly engaged in the same sorts of blackmail/extortion schemes with Wikipedia. Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2023).
The low number of articles posted in the main article space may be due to a lack of trying.
I'm not sure "lack of trying" conveys what you meant to say, or maybe I'm just not getting it. Are you saying they got $1,000,000 receipts on stuff that was in article space, but already has been deleted? Or went to draft to die? Or was never actually posted on-wiki? ☆ Bri (talk) 23:20, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

First, please read WP:BRD. Second, read the discussion at Talk:OceanGate#Ceasing_operations_vs._out_of_business. We already discussed this source in context and refuted it. If you want to change the status of the company, then seek consensus on the talk page of the article rather than attempt to edit war to your preferred version. As of now, there's no consensus to change it. So, try to get consensus. I welcome your contributions to the talk page discussion. I'm reinstating the status quo, pending the outcome of additional discussion. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 23:21, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

On 31 March 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ruth Gottesman, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ruth Gottesman donated $1 billion to ensure free tuition for all students at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ruth Gottesman. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Ruth Gottesman), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. BC1278 (talk) 02:02, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
@Smallbones and @Barkeep49: I'm having trouble understanding how BC1278 is relevant to the story; it doesn't quite make sense to me. Let me put it this way: if a guy called Mr. Prez E. Dent hires a baker to bake a cake saying Prez E. Dent for President
, does that mean the baker also supports Mr. Dent, or are they are doing what they have been hired to do? Now, this cake causes controversy and then a journalist comes them and says 'need quote for The Signpost the cake you made caused a kerfuffle.' I do think the story is newsworthy enough to be covered in The Signpost, but the editor involved, BC1278, probably doesn't need to be named. In my last piece, I didn't name the editor who placed the canvassing banner, as it was contentious, and outsiders of Wikipedia might not be aware of WP:AGF and might assume that it was a bad thing (and partly because every single editor doesn't need to be named). Hello! I just wanted to thank you for reviewing the blurb I submitted for "In the media", since I definitely agree with your edits!
About the headline... I just wanted to do some cheeky wordplay, but I guess Jumanji isn't really the most fitting example, is it? Oltrepier (talk) 09:10, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
