La Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha o Asamblea Legislativa de Madhya Pradesh es la legislatura estatal unicameral del estado de Madhya Pradesh en la India .

La sede de la Vidhan Sabha está en Bhopal , la capital del estado. Está ubicada en el Vidhan Bhavan , un imponente edificio ubicado en el centro del Complejo Capital en la localidad de Arera Hill de la ciudad de Bhopal. El mandato de la Vidhan Sabha es de cinco años, a menos que se disuelva antes. Actualmente, está compuesta por 234 miembros que son elegidos directamente en distritos electorales de un solo escaño. 33 distritos electorales están reservados para los candidatos que pertenecen a las castas programadas y 45 están reservados para los candidatos que pertenecen a las tribus programadas .

Historia

La historia de la legislatura de Madhya Pradesh se remonta a 1913, cuando el 8 de noviembre de ese año se formó el Consejo Legislativo de las Provincias Centrales. Más tarde, la Ley del Gobierno de la India de 1935 dispuso la creación de la Asamblea Legislativa de las Provincias Centrales, que fue elegida. Las primeras elecciones a la Asamblea Legislativa de las Provincias Centrales se celebraron en 1937.

Tras la independencia de la India en 1947, la antigua provincia de las Provincias Centrales y Berar , junto con una serie de estados principescos que se fusionaron con la Unión India, se convirtieron en un nuevo estado, Madhya Pradesh . La asamblea legislativa de este estado estaba compuesta por 184 miembros.

El actual estado de Madhya Pradesh nació el 1 de noviembre de 1956 tras la reorganización de los estados. Fue creado mediante la fusión de los antiguos estados de Madhya Pradesh (sin las zonas de habla maratí, que se fusionaron con el estado de Bombay ), Madhya Bharat , Vindhya Pradesh y Bhopal. Las asambleas legislativas de Madhya Bharat, Vindhya Pradesh y Bhopal contaban con 79, 48 y 23 miembros, respectivamente. El 1 de noviembre de 1956, las asambleas legislativas de los cuatro antiguos estados también se fusionaron para formar la Vidhan Sabha reorganizada de Madhya Pradesh. El mandato de esta primera Vidhan Sabha fue muy breve y se disolvió el 5 de marzo de 1957.

Las primeras elecciones a la Vidhan Sabha de Madhya Pradesh se celebraron en 1957, y la segunda Vidhan Sabha se constituyó el 1 de abril de 1957. Inicialmente, la Vidhan Sabha contaba con 288 miembros, que luego se ampliaron a 321, incluido un miembro designado. El 1 de noviembre de 2000, se creó un nuevo estado, Chhattisgarh , a partir del estado de Madhya Pradesh. Como resultado, la fuerza de la Vidhan Sabha se redujo a 231, incluido un miembro designado. El edificio actual fue diseñado por Charles Correa en 1967 y recibió el Premio Aga Khan de Arquitectura en 1998. [4]

El 4 de diciembre de 2017, la Asamblea de Madhya Pradesh aprobó por unanimidad un proyecto de ley que impone la pena de muerte a quienes sean declarados culpables de violar a niñas de 12 años o menos.
