Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
Use the main sandbox or create your own personal sandbox to experiment.
Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References=={{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.
Capitalisation of "black" as an ethnic label
Hi Narbine! I've recently reverted quite a few edits you've made which capitalised the work "black" as an ethnic label. I reverted them because this change is against Wikipedia's Manual of Style (MoS). The MoS section which dictates this, Capital letters § Peoples and their languages, states that either capitalisation is appropriate, but articles should be internally consistent (terms should either be all capitalised or all uncapitalised), and changes to capitalisation should not be made without consensus. If you have any questions about this, please let me know. Thanks, Tol (talk | contribs) @ 23:57, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thank you for those links, it helps me understand. I want to clarify to be clear, because I really do enjoy editing Wikipedia articles.
If there was a quote from a 1970 newspaper that said something like "Martin Luther King, Jr. was a black man" and I wanted to use that quote in MLK Jr's Wiki page then I would keep that quote directly and keep the the black man lower case, right? Because now I've used a quote with lowercase black then the rest of the wiki page needs to use lowercase b black?
Again, thank you for the links and taking the time to explain to me so I can be a better article. Cheers. Narbine (talk) 20:24, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I saw your message on my talk page. I believe I watchlisted your talk page for a week, so when you replied, I was no longer watching it. In the future, you can send me a notification by adding a link to my user page ([[User:Tol]]) to your message. If you do so, you should get a notification that "your mention was sent". As for your question, the style of anything that you and other editors write has to be consistent, but quotations don't count. So, you could add a quote with "black" to a page and then use "Black" in your own writing (as long as the article doesn't already use "black"). I hope this helps! Requesting some article expansion help
Greetings @ Narbine,
Greetings,
Hi, I am User:Bookku, I find information and knowledge gaps create Drafts and important topic articles with information gaps then try to recruit expanding editors and promote drafts & articles for further expansion.
This request is being made to you after your expression of interest @ some WP Projects.
Requesting your visit to following drafts and help expand the same if any of these interests you.
Draft:Irrational beliefs (This draft needs expansion support from editors interested in psychology domain)
I've always been interested in editing basic grammar in Wikipedia but this is my first time being quite intentional with helping to expand articles. Can I ask in which space did you come across my name?
I'm absolutely happy to help and am glad you decided to trust and reach out to me. I'll go through these tomorrow and see how I can help :)
How I noticed your interest in topics, I noted at the end of this reply with star mark so you can get to know about that.
For example article on feminist slogan My body, my choice is written in collaboration after sending similar request to editor who had edited women's rights related article.
Fortunately many editors like you have been supporting me in grammar and spell copy edit, and I am dependent on such help since English is not my native language. So such help is welcome but practically there are very few editors in expansion of Women's rights and feminism related articles. Most of women editors focus remains on women biographies and other non–biography articles related to women get very less attention. I would be very happy if you can take up such a work.
I have book marked google scholar and google books sites in my browser there I search for academic references. Add them on talk page or bibliography so as and when I get time or user like yours can take up those sources and expand the articles.
Every Wikipedia page right side of the edit button you can see star button if you click that the page gets added up in watch list. And we can see who is editing which page of our interest.
Besides I have my own list of articles of interest. When I click related changes from left menu of the article I get to know which editors are making edits to them and I find out substantial content adding contributors and send them the requests.
Very few requests I send from history of the articles of my interest.
As I said earlier in these topic domains very few editors write so actually it is a long wait and frequent search with lot of patience before I can find some willing editor like yours to help out.
I listed 2 topics Draft:Circassian women Draft:Hermeneutics of feminism in Sikhism which are not general women but women of specific communities since though members of those communities are seen to be active on Wikipedia but interest on women's rights related article among them is low and probably women from very small communities are not much seen on Wikipedia so some among us only will need to take initiative and write about them once they find pages about them in long run they may feel interested and then edit Wikipedia themselves some day I hope.
Please feel free to let me know of any questions on your mind I will try to help you out as far as I know. Looking forward to your continued support as discussed.
Can you revert this please? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Calipatria_State_Prison&type=revision&diff=1109259135&oldid=1108865347 2601:206:301:4A90:FC18:F524:E2FA:FD89 (talk) 03:46, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This IP is a sock of prolific sockmaster Cadeken. See WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Cadeken/Archive, who has created dozens of accounts and used even more IPs. The editing pattern is identical. IPs in southern California always pop up when a registered sock is blocked. The IPs seek meatpuppets with this message to evade a block or policies.
